Choosing Your Car Insurance – Part 2

In this post we return to the topic of car insurance.

We’re going to dive even deeper into the details, so you can make a brilliant decision!

When you start looking at car insurance estimates, remember to check on state requirements for minimum necessary coverage.

Car insurance coverage usually includes collision, liability, and comprehensive coverage on a vehicle. Most households have two or more vehicles, so you’ll want to ensure they are all covered.

Now, we get it…. Nobody’s favorite pastime is researching car insurance! But it’s definitely worthwhile to find the most competitive estimate available. Think about it – Who would walk into an appliance store and decide to spend $200 more on one washer than on the one next to it, even if they both offered the exact same quality and features? Yet that is what many people do with car insurance, often spending far more than they have to, simply because they haven’t taken the time to compare rates and policies between companies

There are a few things you can do to make the car insurance hunt more accurate….

Have your Info – To spend less time on the phone, it’s always a good idea to have all your info handy: driver’s license, vehicle identification numbers, make, model and year of each car. Even the name and contact information for the company that is financing any of the vehicles, if applicable.

Look for Discounts – There are a number of factors you can consider for saving on insurance. Features such as airbags, auto alarms, anti-lock brakes, etc. may mean discounts on auto insurance. Some insurance companies will even offer discounts for having more than one policy with their company (family cellphone plan anyone?), as well as insuring multiple cars with their coverage. Additional discounts may come through:  an accident-free driving record and defensive driving course incentives.

Shop Around on the Cost Factors – Keep in mind that certain life circumstances drive estimates higher. Men under the age of 25, single drivers, any drivers under the age of 21, the number of miles driven per day, even the kind of car that is driven – these can all can cost a driver extra money on car insurance. The good news is that probably almost no company will charge the same amount or do the same breakdown for each driver. So shop around for the best deal for you.

We hope these tips simplify your insurance shopping experience!
